Artie had been suggesting to Erica yesterday , he would bring the paddle board over so she could try out the standing up method.Sure enough after breakfast we saw Artie and Jane paddling over towards our boat.
Soon Jane and Erica were off around the Pool , it was easy to balance surprisingly and we had such fun for about 30 mins , exploring and chatting while Graeme fixed Atrie a good cup of nespresso coffee! Then it was time to pick up the anchor.
Somewhat easier said than done as the Pool is full of weed and we were soon accumulated big wads of weed wrapped around the anchor chain .These had to be cut off periodically and it was a slow process.
Finally after 30 minutes we got the anchor free and we headed off out of the Pool, waving goodbyes to our new friends. We were able to follow the breadcrumbs on the chart so made an easy exit out to the channel and headed North to Little Current.
The water was very calm and there was very little wind. Just before the entrance to Little Current channel there is a swing bridge.
Normally it has an 18 ft clearance and as we only need just over 15 ft , we debated going under it.
But because this year the water levels in the lakes are higher than normal ( by about 3 ft in this area ) we decided not to risk it. Instead we waited out the 10 minutes ( the bridge only opens once every hour , on the hour) along with four sailboats. On the journey over we had no boats following us at all Season is still early , we guessed.Stopped at Wallys for fuel and pump out then onto our slip assignment at the Town Dock Marina. The passenger cruise ship we had seen at Midland was also tied up there ,The Pearl Mist.
Checked in, then went over to the Anchor Inn pub which was showing the Euro Cup soccer France against Germany.France came out the winner and will play Portugal in the final game. Picked up a new icecream flavor called Rolo on the way back to the boat .You knew it had to have chocolate and caramel , right.
We gave the boat a good hose down and through clean.Lots of bugs had accumulated on the decks.
Erica went off to find the supermarket around the waterfront and on the way spied a boat called Rangatira. She called out to the owner and said are you a NewZealander?
Sure enough , Bill came from Otago and his wife from Christchurch.
They have lived in Canada many years and have been boating for a large part of that time.
Later we headed back to the Anchor Inn for supper. We had heard the fish tacos and the steak and blue cheese salad were very good and that proved to be the case.We sat out on the patio eating and chatting to a group of three guys Jeff , Jeff and Brad all married with families , who have taken time off work and are doing a water adventure on jetskies for a week together. Good on them. What a fun idea.Brad even has a sister in Lakewood Ranch!Small world indeed.
We headed back to the boat to get on wifi and reminisce about our own wonderful adventures we are having. So thankful.
Over and out,
E and G
