This morning we got chatting with Bruce and Margie our dock neighbors again.Bruce is a Shane Warne look alike.( Australian famous cricketer ) He had some good tips and maps of the area where we are going itoday and beyond. They live in Wisconson and have boated in the area a lot. Bruce
recommended we try the Benjamin Islands also .It had not been on our list but others have mentioned it also. They were planning to go there today.
Boating people are generally very friendly and helpful to each other especially with sharing their knowledge .
Graeme headed off for the Killarney Mt Lodge to buy some bakery items .We found out last night at the restaurant that they have their own bakery which sells freshly baked bread and muffins etc. each day.It had to be better than the wonder bread we had picked up yesterday at Pitfield's General store
We left about 10.15 am with Graeme doing some careful maneuvering backwards to get out of the Marina.
Thankful for the pod drives! Water was calm and we headed into the Landsdowne Channel. It was an easy run. As we left the channel we saw lots of electric windmills in the distance. Canada must use this power source quite a bit.
We entered the Baie Fine Fjord where it was very quiet with only a few boats around .We decided to go to the end where the famous Pool is .Its very popular with boaters to anchor there as its sheltered and the the depth is good. Question is was there room for us.
On the way we checked out other possible anchoring sites to come back to if necessary.
About two thirds of the way up the fjord ,we recognized the sailboat Travellers 2 .We had met them on the dock at Killarney while they we fueling up two days ago.We decided to slow down and follow them into the Pool.
Their draft is 6 ft while ours is 4 ft so as we entered the narrow areas , they could check out the depts first! If they scrapped the bottom ,we knew to take care also.
There were only 3 boats anchored when we arrived so we both found good spots and set the anchor.
Got out the dingy and rode over to Traveller 2 Thanked them for their help guiding us in and got invited for drinks on board their boat at 5 pm.We headed off for the famous Topaz Lake.Supposed to be a
20 min hike up the hill from a nearby dock.1 hour later we finally arrived! We had taken the another trail beyond the Topaz Lake turnoff.
Remember to follow the yellow discs nailed to the trees after the split , not the continuation of the blue discs! The path is a rocky one but well worth the effort. All good exercise.
The lake was lovely , reminiscent of the ones we saw on our trip to the Rockies with Lake Louise and Banff.Water was cool and very refreshing. After our swim , we walked down hill and back to the boat
At 5 pm went over to our new friends Arnie, Jane , Val and Gunta for drinks and spent a delightful time chatting and deciding this was some trip we are all having.Very blessed.
Dinner onboard BBQ ribs and salad .Then time to check the anchor , read a bit( no wifi here or any signal for that matter) and bed.
Over and out,
E and G.
