We woke up to the Bugler playing from the fort around 8 am.
Off to the coffee shop next to the Marina to get on their excellent wifi.
As you know by now , wifi has been a real issue everywhere we have been so far.
After emails and blogs , we headed off to Jack's Livery Stable to book our horse and carriage to rent.
Never heard of anywhere else in USA that does this. They don't even require any sort of horse or buggy driving experience. We were given "Bell " a big black Persheron mare, who was wonderful.
Obedient and responsive. After a quick lesson up the road , we were off on our own just armed with a map.
We stopped at Arch Rock a great photo opportunity. Its a limestone formation with a 30 feet wide hole that looks down into the water.
We also drove along the cliffs where we had wonderful views of the town and harbor and the magnificent homes sitting with that commanding view. Costing anywhere between 3 to 20 million dollars .We got Bell to trot several times.Felt like we were back in the old days going along through the wooded areas.
Back to the boats or a quick change .We headed for the Carriage Restaurant at the Iroquois Hotel on the waterfront. There we met up with Erica's golfing friend from Lakewood Ranch, Jane and her husband Don and their friends Joyce and Paul.Had a very pleasant lunch Some of us chose the whitefish sandwich special Delicious! We all walked back to the boat so we could show the others how we live on Lady Erica during the summer.
Later in the evening we showered and dressed up for our Woods Restaurant experience. No shorts today! This hotel is part of the Grand hotel complex but sits out literally in the woods and has an Austrian hunting theme.First we had to get there, so took the Woods horse shuttle on a lovely 45 mins journey. Unfortunately our driver Austin had a captive audience and he talked non stop.
We would have preferred to just take in the scenery and enjoy the ride.
Oh well , he was a nice chap and meant well. The restaurant was full when we arrived .Lots of families having celebrations and couples having a special night out .
We had Jack's special table which sat above the floor level so we could look out .We sat in red and white checked high winged chairs .
The wait service was excellent.
Lots of stuffed moose and other beasts looks out at us from the walls .Quite something.
Had a nice bottle of wine.Graeme had lamb shanks and I had the beef goulash special.
We headed back down and the horse shuttle dropped us right out the Marina.
10 pm we heard the last bugler play, and so ended another delightful day.
So blessed!
Over and out,
E and G.
