A rest day in Killarney

Hi F and F,
Full Breakfast at the Pines Inn , fun little place run by an older couple.
We did get to try the pea meal bacon which was delicious.Sort of a low fat tasty bacon.
We went for a walk thorough the village of Killarney which was originally settled in 1824.
Originally called Shebahonaning, it was thankfully changed to a more pronouncable  name ! Rochbert de Morandice and his native wife  established it as a fur trading post.
Many people passed through the Killarney Channel, traders, settlers , surveyors and missionaries.
Over the years people made their living from fur trading, logging, commercial fishing ,trapping, mining and tourism. We went to visit the old jail and the log cabin museum with its early European settler items on display. Also checked out the old general store  where you can buy groceries .
Erica was keen to try a short hike and we were given a tip from one of the dock hands to take the trail to the eastern lighthouse stopping on a rock formation at about the 4 km mark.
Erica made up a picnic and we set off through the woods.Wonderful suggestion as the views were spectacular at the point , especially as there were no clouds just brilliant sunshine and a very clear vision .Back down through the village we stopped to sample the famous Farquar icecream, which was very good.
At 4 pm we headed for the Sportsman Inn Bar to watch France play Iceland in the Euro soccer match.
Iceland did well but France was too strong beating them 5 to 2 goals.
Dinner onboard tonight out in the cockpit. Nice wild salmon cooked Bob Richards style.Still brilliant sunshine .The sunset is not until about 9.15 pm here. The manager had shared a tip of a great place to see the sunset tonight. On a set of rocks behind the artist Pierre Sabourin's place.
So we trotted off about 8.45 pm , knocked on Pierre's door and he showed us the spot . Spectacular scenes again and lots of photos taken.
Afterwards Pierre invited us into his house to see some of his art work .
Mostly done with heavy acrylics and using fairly bright colors  , he paints en-plein-air ie outside on the location.A walk back home to Lady Erica completed a very lovely day here in Killarney.
Over and out,
E and G
