We had decided or at least Erica wanted, to anchor out today somewhere halfway between Parry Sound and Killarney. Freya ( the Great Looper lady) had recommended Stairs Island which looked good on the map, just before Pointe at Baril.
Weather was on the cold side and a bit breezy but as we left shortly after breakfast we found good shelter on the small craft channel north. We turned onto the channel at Pancake Islands , then past Snug Harbor and around Hekong Channel.
It went well makes but some parts very narrow, which meant a lot of concentrating for Graeme.
Finally coming into the Shawanaga Inlet and Stars Island. There we set anchor.
We found there was a lot of weekend traffic on the route especially the speed boats and jet skies all going at high speed, and that was no exception the channel when we anchored between Stairs Island and the neighboring one. Also we were quite close to rocks which is problematic in this area. Graeme felt very uncomfortable with the anchorage so we decided to abort and Erica called up the nearby marinas.Found one that could take us but we had trouble finding it.In fact we realized we had gone several miles passed it .We decided to just head on for Killarney and Erica booked a slip for the night at the Sportmans Inn.
Many hours later after a choppy NW 2 ft seas we arrived in the Killarney Channel.
It had been a 7.15 hour journey! Also, several miles before we arrived , we noticed a very strange cloud formation and the wind seemed to whip up , but fortunately we were fine .
The dock staff at Sportsman Inn were fabulous annd very helpful. We decided to stay 2 nights and have a break.A very large Hateras 80 ft Yacht came in right beside us .
Turns out the captain and his wife were from South Africa .Nice couple and we plan to catch up with them in Chicagi where he boat is usually kept at Chicago YC. The crowd on board including the owner partied until 2 am.The joys of being in a Marina!
7.30 pm , decided no meal prep tonight, we wandered down to another world famous fish and chips dinning experience.Used to be run out of an old bus , but now they have and indoor and outdoor restaurant. They were good , but we think Henry's score the best so far.
Back to Lady Erica and off to bed early.
Over and Out,
E and G
