We had a new plan today and as the weather was sunny and very little wind , we headed off early to the SouthBenjamin Island .Plan to have the morning exploring there and lunch before heading over to Gore Bay where we are planning to have cocktails with Erica's friend Melissa in the late afternoon. Also more importantly at Gore Bay , it would be a chance for Graeme to watch the Euro soccer final on TV a Melissa and Erica volunteer at Smart the horse therapy riding center in Bradenton, Florida.
The journey was smooth and easy with nice deep and wide channels although we find pay attention to the sow and pig rocks on our starboard as we entered the SW Bay of South Benjamin Island.
Good depths and very clear water made anchoring easy.
Once that was set we got into the dingy and went off to explore a cut through the rocks and to the north anchorage of the Island.Easy to avoid the rocks in the water with Erica perched up at the bow ad lookout.
We saw a large hawk flying overhead using the wind currents to glide gracefully in the sky.We tied up at a large sloping rock face , well know by the boaters in the area, and climbed to the top .Had a great view of the bay. Each place we see gets more beautiful! Oops this picture is a stake for mooring the boat. Some boats have managed to wedge themselves into tight rock crevasses !
Headed back to a cove with a small sandy beach and had a swim in the cool but recessing clear waters before having our lunch.
Two boats we have been catching up with in both Baie Finn and Little Current stopped by .Turns out they come down to Sarasota for the winter and the Opera season. So hope to see Sandy and Gary again ! Headed out of the anchorage with ease.No weeds and no mud clinging to hit anchor as we pulled it up !
On the 1 hour journey over to Gore Bay , Graeme was telephoning to check if anyone was showing the soccer on TV in Gore Bay.
No luck ! Places either shut for the day or no TV.
As we arrived in , Melissa's boat was next door to our designated slip! Turns out she was not able to join us this evening but we planned on pancake breakfast tomorrow morning on Lady Erica.
When we went to sign in at the Marina , we found out in fact that next door , the Canadian Yacht Charter store had a big TV and it as on the soccer channel already .So we got to watch it after all and were excited to see Portugal win. Blair's father in law is Portuguese !
The Yacht Charter has Sailboats, Trawlers and Catamarans for rent .Great way to see this area if you don't own a boat or don't plan to bring your boat thus far away!
In mid to high season a trawler would cost about cdn $ 4,000 per week Sleeps 4 to 6 people.
Walked back to the boat and later had dinner on board Very good lasagne and salad.
Been a wonderful day.
Over and Out
