Well having tried to leave at 6.30 am and then turning back due to very strong winds, we secured Lady Erica in the same slip we headed off up the hill behind the Marina to get some views of the Harbour and hopefull see what was going on around the corner where the wind was strongest. Saw a lovely home for sale overlooking the Harbour .Just the perfect spot and house. Such a shame it was too far from Florida!
After consulting all means available to us,Internet weather info , wind strengths and talking to fishermen and sailors to get their advice ,we decided to wait it out until the wind was supposed to die down in the late afternoon. Spent time in the interactive little museum on site , learning facts about blue tuna.Didnt know they can live to 30 and even38 years. They are warm blooded and love to come to this area to feed on the rich sea life. Many fishermen are now just doing catch and release. There are very strict rules here as to what you can catch and how many. Before you even go out , you must declare if you are going to fish to keep or fish to release. Our lovely dock master Kim had her 5 month old baby in the office so we got to know her little one who is currently waiting for her first tooth to appear.Happy Days!
At 4 pm we decided to get on and go.We knew the first hour was probably not going to be pleasant but there after it would improve . One of the sailors said you can expect to have some of your stuff to be rearranged inside. He was right but nothing too much so and no damage .After head on seas we turned onto a beam sea which was more comfortable and then in the last two hours we bounced our way along the Northumberland Strait which lies Inbetween Pictou Island and PEI.
Much like the Cheapeake Bay with some shallow waters , it creates a nasty chop, but fortunely the waves were only about 1 to 2 ft high even tough almost head on.Ironically, just as we turned to head up to Charlottetown ( the capital of PEI ) and our Marina , we saw the sun setting. On our first attempt to leave we had seen the sun rising over the sea. Guess that was a kind of bonus! The inland trip was 10nm.and we arrived at 8 pm just as it was getting dark.
We had been given a lovely inside slip, just perfect for the length of our boat , on Dock E 2
We had brought enough salt on the outside of the boat to probably salt many cod fish! The boat was covered in it. But that will be tomorrow's job to clean it off.
A late dinner consisted of some delicious Smoked Salmon from Bras D 'Or Lakes and a big salad.
Then time to unwind and head to bed.
Over and Out,
S and S.
