Full day in Summerside ,Labor Day here and USA

Hi F and F,
As expected the winds were up again this time expected to be 20 to 25 it's! So no going out on the boat today!
As it was Labor Day we found everything almost was shut in this town.I had tried to arrange a rental car but all three companies were closed for the weekend.Wonder why?
We set off after breakfast for the visitors center and the Eptex ( the art and culture center)
They at least they were open! We saw some lovely craft items there.
The the friendly gentleman at the visitors  center suggested we make a self guided walking tour around the historic homes area. This we did and had a lovely time exploring.

This house was built from stones from Ireland normally used as ballast for ships!

This was the pogo guy in Charlottetown

Got back to the boat and as we were thinking about what to do , one of the ladies in theyacht club knocked on our boat and offered to help us get rental car.She had heard about our issue of being disappointed we couldn't view some more of PEI
A quick phone call to her friend at the Dodge dealership and it was all arranged. She drove us there , we filled out the paperwork with Cathy and by 2 pm we were off in a nice little fairly new Kia for the day.
First we explored Victoria By the Sea.A cute little tiny town where the chocolate shop is famous. We indulged to some of the handmade chocolates and went for a walk to see the the tallest tree in PEI.
Got to have something to draw the visitors in! Then off to visit Cavendish and North Rustico on the Northern end of the Island.
I had also found out a Celidh ( Scottish music evening ) that was operating tonight in the area.. On the way we passed through Wheatley River a very small town and I took a photo of Graeme at the sign post.
Lovely views on the way, rolling hills with big rolls of hay lying in the fields, potatoes growing everywhere in the re soil , and lots of cows and horses.Truly a very rural scene here. After Rustico on the coast and passing lots of cottages for rent we stopped in at Cavendish and did the Anne of Green Gables thing.
The house sits on the edge of a golf course. As it was late afternoon, most of the tourists had left and we were able to see the barn area , the house and garden almost on our own. Pictures there were taken of course. Then back to North Rustico for dinner at the Fishermans Wharf Lobster Suppers which had been recommended.(I found it always pays to ask the locals).I had 1 lb of lobster in a bakedpotato  and fresh vegs and Graeme had a fisherman stew. Both were delicious. Always a good sign when you eat near the fishing harbours! Then onto Stanley Bidge Hall for the Ross Family Ceildh.
We had to line up outside the hall for 30 mins and the at 7.30 pm the show began.Three siblings , Two sisters , one on guitar and the other on the fiddle and one brother on an electric keyboard.
They entertained us at a rapid pace with singing , dancing and playing.
It was great fun.Exhausting to watch with some much energy going on.At half time the ladies from the Women's Institute sold drinks and icecream with strawberries. Again so English , it was great.
Then it was back in the dark to the Dodge dealership where we picked up a taxi to take us back to the boat. The day ended better that expected.
Over and Out,
S and S
