Still have the beautiful weather and this is a very good rest stop for everyone.
Some are leaving Mondayday like us , others are taking advantage of the stay of five nights and get two free ( a Great Loopers special) We caught up with Hydrophilic here also , they headed off today for Nashville , Tennessee . Some boats are doing this side trip which goes further down of the Cumberland
River. Then they will have to retrace their steps.
Our two days went well here.
First day we had Budd and Kathy arrive to visit with us and have lunch together. They made the 3 and 1/ 2 hour drive especially, we were touched they would do that.
They have been a wonderful help and Budd's charts and blog ( done by his friend Richard when they made this trip two years ago) have been a great support to our own books .We had dinner out the first night with our group at Pattis Settlement in Grand River, the little town close by the Marina .
They are famous for their 2 inch pork chops and Graeme and Erica had the 1 inch version.Very good. Second night we had dinner aboard Lucky Ducks and had several hours enjoying each other's company and spinning yarns! We have so enjoyed getting to know Terri and Jim.
Also made a couple of trips in the courtesy GTM jeep to the famous Super Walmart's grocery stores
We feel we are getting to see Walmart stores at every stop! Becoming Walmart groupies!!
On the Sunday we went with Terri and Jim and had a quick explore of Paducah Town historic area .
Some of this area around us is dry i.e. no alcohol and so when we were at the Walmart , Jim couldn't buy the beer on the shelves even though they were sitting there ready to pick up. Sunday equals no alcohol purchase! The town had two restaurants open and one little art gallery ,which we checked out.
One other special thing we did here was to witness the boat Liquid Assets complete the Loop. They crossed their own wake, in otherwords completed the Great Loop, here at GTM.
There was champagne , speeches and even their family turned up for the event , including the grandchildren.
As Tim the owner of the boat said, when you start out you are nervous about the trip and wonder how will you handle everything that's new and foreign to you.But in the end it's the fellow loopers who provide the help, support and friendship that makes this journey so worthwhile.
Well said!
Over and Out,
E and G.
