Anchoring at Kaskaskia Lock

Hi F and F,
As this was  to be a short run today, we left just before noon time. Plus with these smoother waters it easy to prepare lunch on the way . We did know it was going to be another very hot day.
At least our generator  had been fixed , so we could get air con when we need it.
At 7.30 am Erica took off for a walk to see the historic Kimmwick house on the edge of the Mississippi
On the way, she got chatting with one of the volunteers at the therapeutic riding school next to Hoppies Marina. Tuns out this is also a Path affiliated riding school like the one Erica volunteers at in Florida and had been an instructor at in Virginia. It's called Ride on St. Louis. Erica was  introduced also to Gabe another volunteer and then to Marita the wonderful lady who owns  the establishment.Erica then got a tour of the barns, horses and indoor arena. What a treat! Everything was well organized and in great shape, horses included.
Back to the boat for our group  walk to the Blue Owl and breakfast to celebrate Ann and Mel's 48 wedding anniversary Wonderful food and we all took pictures of the bakery dept with their famous apple pies  with their many layers of apple and other goodies.
All the waitresses were wearing blue frilly aprons, a southern touch !
Terri, Erica , Graeme and Jim walked back afterwards and the others got a drive by tour of the little town from Mary the owner.Mary had been quick to let us know she had had Oprah interview  her here and she had also taught Paula Dean some of her special recipes!
Got back to the boats to find there were already three new boats waiting out on the river and ready to take our slips!
So we headed off and arrive at Kaskaskia lock mid afternoon. The lock in on the Kaskaskia River just off the Mississippi River , so nice and quiet. As we entered in the Asian carp were really jumping and one landed on our dingy cover and spent at least an minute or two trying to flip itself back into the water!
The lock has a wall which we were able to tie up to although two boats rafted up as two large cranes had taken two of the spots .
We all relaxed and had our own dinners on board.
Over and out,
E and G.
